Study automatic controls used in light commercial and residential HVAC/R operations. Emphasis is placed on the proper use of electrical testing instruments and mechanical tools.  Introduction to HVAC safety, tools, and equipment: principles of thermodynamics and heat transfer; piping and piping practices; electricity for HVAC/R; controls; refrigerant system components; air conditioning systems; heat pumps; heating systems; and preventive maintenance.  Includes hands-on lab exercises, shop demonstrations and mechanical simulation.
